Barbie and the Rockers
Thursday, February 25th, 2010My big sister had the whole set, except from Ken. My mom never wanted us to have male dolls. Finally, I’ve been waiting until I was 12 years old to get a Ken doll and each time I see one for a cheap price, at the flea market, I feel the need to buy it. End of line.
Lego’s Space Shuttle
Monday, February 22nd, 2010When I was a kid, one of my favorites toys were LEGO blocks. Thanks to a friend of the family who gave me, a bucket full of these famous blocks, as well as my very first ColecoVision system. Well, let’s get back to LEGOs! I could spend countless hours building houses, towers, vehicles and other things. Most of the blocks were from the Classic Space series and, as it often happens when you get used LEGO sets, the instructions booklets were missing. So, I spent all these years not knowing how to build space shuttles and lunar scooters. It was until recently, when I’ve decided to look for archives of instructions booklets, that I’ve found this website. This place contains scans of several building instructions from the Space series and others as well. I’ve decided to give a try on one of the easiest models and here’s how it came out:

The model as pictured on the booklet.

There’s not much to say about the Skedoodle since I can’t find anything about it on the internet. All I know about this toy is that it has been released by Hasbro in 1978 an it have a fair success. The Skedoodle was a variation of the Etch-a-Sketch board. The “screen” has a dome shape and it has a joystick, unlike the Etch-a-Sketch who has two knobs. The joystick was used to draw curved shape using one of the twelves templates that was included with the toys. You could also rotate the black ring around the screen to make Spirograph-like pattern. The actual Skedoodle I own was bought off eBay. It cames with all its templates, the original box and the drawing manual. I used to own one as a kid but I barely played with it and my little sister, curious as she was, decided to break it open to see own it worked and the poor toy ended in the garbage. How sad for a toy to end this way. So? Does anybody else remember the Skedoodle?
